The problem
Why cropping fails on a tall screen.
A wide clip is composed for a wide frame. Crop it to portrait and you throw away the sides, which is usually where the composition was. Stretch it instead and everything in it grows tall and thin.
On a forty-foot screen, both are obvious from the far side of the lobby. It is the thing that makes a screen look like it is playing somebody else's content, because it is.
